A Turkey in Disguise

Dear Family,

It’s time to have some fun creating a very unusual bird!  Please help your child disguise this turkey so that he won’t be eaten for Thanksgiving!  The disguised turkey will go along with a fiction story that your child will write in class. You may choose to disguise your turkey as a doctor, an astronaut, a farmer, a cheerleader, a ballerina, a clown, etc…
Be creative and use any materials you have at home.

Please cut out the enclosed turkey, decorate it and return it to school.  Make it original and fun!  This poem will be used to display the turkeys at school:

My name is Tom Turkey
And I’m as afraid as I can be.
I’m wearing my disguise
So you won’t catch me!

Please return your turkey on Monday, November 5.

Cedarburg Field Trip

Dear Third Grade Families,
As part our our Social Studies curriculum in third grade,
students will learn about the history of Cedarburg and
our community.  We are fortunate to have the opportunity
to participate in a walking tour of Cedarburg sponsored
by the Historical Society. This tour will include A Day in
the Life of Cedarburg, as we compare and contrast modern
life to the past. We will visit the Kuhefuss House Museum,
a one room schoolhouse in the Lincoln Building, and complete a
scavenger hunt throughout the downtown. Please have your
child pack a cold lunch and a drink  the day of the field trip.
We will be eating in the classroom at 11:00. If a school lunch
is needed, please let your child's teacher know ahead of time.

Appelley Poetry Contest

Dear family,

Your child has the option to participate in a poetry contest
through Appelley Publishing. During this school year,
your child will read poems, find poems they love, make
connections with poems, examine poems and create
his/her own poems. I encourage your child to participate
in the poetry competition, but need your help filling out
the attached form. However, it is OPTIONAL for your child
to participate in this contest. Once we type the poems, we
will complete the number of word section at school. Please
complete the form by Nov. 1st. There is more information
on the site: www.appelley.org. If you have questions,
please contact  your child’s teacher.

Military Speakers needed for Veteran's Day Ceremony
Our Parkview Veteran's Day Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. The program will last approximately 30 minutes. We are in need of speakers who would be willing to share a little bit (5-10 minutes) about their service to our country.  We will have 5th grade students prepare a few questions for you to answer that you would be given well in advance. Please email Mr. Lunk at nlunk@cedarburg.k12.wi.us if you would be willing to share for our Veteran's Day Ceremony.

PBIS Celebration

Dear Families,
It is with excitement that we prepare for our next PBIS celebration this Thursday, October 18th.  Our students have been working hard at demonstrating Parkview Pride in all areas of our school.  With each compliment our class has received from Parkview staff members, we have earned a compliment.  Our school goal was to earn 150 total compliments!  Way to go, Parkview!
As our school incentive, the Quarter 1 PBIS celebration will be a special live concert with Ms. Kendra Swanson, CSD's Scientist in Residence, and MUSICIAN.  We are thrilled to have booked her to perform concerts for our students located in our BenKin Learning Center that day.  Please make sure your child wears a warm coat, gloves, and hat (if necessary) to school on Thursday so they can enjoy our outdoor 30 minute concert.
Be sure to ask your child about this special event planned!

Thank you for your help in reminding students to dress warm that day.
