If your child is bringing a recorder from home, please send it to school with them on the date listed above so they can learn to play their recorder along with everyone else.  Rented recorders will be issued at the same time as purchased recorders.  Rented recorders may be taken home, but must be returned at the end of the school year in good condition.  They will be labeled "Parkview" but also have your child's name attached to the case.
I am requesting that your child's recorder be kept in their backpack so it can travel between home and school.  Students will not be allowed to play them on the bus, during recess, or before and after school while on campus.
Cleaning and Care Instructions:
The recorder may be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher or washed by hand in the sink.  If using the dishwasher, you may want to check that your hot water temperature setting will not melt it.  :-)  The recorder separates into two pieces.  If washing by hand, use a small cloth to dry the inside and outside of the recorder or simply let it air dry.  Avoid using paper towel or Kleenex to dry the inside of the recorder.  A very small amount of grease should only be applied to the very bottom of the top piece after each wash when the recorder is dry.  Vaseline works well too.
Recorder Expectations:

Students should bring their recorders with them to each music class for the remainder of the school year.  Students who frequently forget their recorders may experience a drop in their instrumental grade on their progress report since their practice, participation, and/or assessments may be limited.  If your child forgets to bring his/her recorder to music class, they will be issued a loaner to use that day during class so they can continue practicing their fingerings (no mouthpiece).  If a recorder is lost or damaged, please let me know immediately so one can be rented or purchased for your child.  This will prevent them from getting behind.  Also, please let me know if any special circumstances occur that would prevent your child from having and/or playing their recorder so their grade is not negatively affected.
