Mother/Son Kickball Game

Despite the rain, we "kicked" off Parkview's Mother/Son Kickball Game Friday.  Lots of laughs were shared and memories were made with our mother/son dynamic duos!  Kindergarten-fifth grade kickers participated. Thanks for all that could attend.
Dear Parents,
Please complete this web usage form. It needs to be filled out for each child. This gives your child permission to use websites like Raz-kids, Kahoot, etc.

Please take the quick 20 seconds it take to fill it out by Friday Sept. 23rd.

Each class is separate, so if you have children in multiple rooms fill out the specific teacher's form that they sent you or click on the link(s) below.

Thank you!

At home you can discuss how you use a map for driving or going on road trips. If you have any maps you can share that with your child too.

Digital Citizenship:Image result for typing agent
We taught your child about using Chromebooks correctly, going to appropriate sites, being safe on the Internet and showed various addition sites. Your child also learned about Typing Agent or will be learning about Typing Agent. Your child can access this program through our Parkview homepage, clicking on the student tab, click Typing Agent and log in with Google username and password from the assignment book. MAP testing

It is about that  time of year again...MAP testing! We will be taking our fall MAP tests in the next two weeks. Please try to schedule any appointments around our testing times.
Studer:
Reading: Tues. 9/13 @1:55-2:55
Math: Wed. 9/21 @1:55-2:55
French:
Reading: Fri. 9/16@1:55-2:55
Math: Thurs. 9/22 @1:55-2:55
Moldenhauer:
Reading:Thrs. 9/15 @1:55-2:55
Math: Tue. 9/20 @1:55-2:55
Here are some tips for making sure your child can do the best they can!
  • Prioritize bedtime. According to WebMD, 5-12 year olds need 10-11 hours of sleep per day, while 12-18 year olds need at least 8 ½. Ensure that your kids are well-rested on testing day by making sure they head to bed early the night before. It’s also a good idea to eliminate screen time before bed, as this can stimulate young brains and make it harder for kids to fall asleep.

  • Get them moving. Test-taking is mentally taxing, and – for little bodies especially – so is sitting still. Some schools add extra recesses on MAP assessment days, but even if yours doesn’t, you can still sneak in a few extra trips to the park for the fresh air and physical activity that kids desperately need.

  • Maintain a positive attitude. Students, especially those who struggle with learning disabilities or test-taking anxiety, need to recognize that MAP assessments are only a small snapshot of their overall progress in school. And since most children take their cues from their parents, one of the best things we can do for them is to model a calm, upbeat attitude about the entire process. Remind your kids that, while it's important to perform to the best of their ability, it's even more important to realize that their standardized test scores can in no way define who they really are.

Math Link

Dear family,

Your child can practice his/her nightly math facts by playing computer games, using addition flashcards or playing math games. Here is a great website to use to have your child practice his/her math facts:

Then, click on math, addition and there are a lot of game options.

Happy math fact practice

9/2/16
Dear family,

It was a great first 2 days of third grade. Your child is getting to know the routines and procedures of the classroom. We will continue to go over these next weeks. We just want to explain a few items.

Curriculum Night:
Instead of Curriculum Night, we will be creating a digital informational video that we would like you to watch. Then, if you have questions, please let us know. We will send this out the week of Sept. 12th.

All About Me Bag:
This weekend your child will have homework. Your child can finish completing his/her "All About Me" brown lunch bag and then bring in 3 items that fit in the bag to do a "Show and Tell." An example would be: Charlotte's Web book because I like to read.

Gym Shoes:
Please make sure your child has gym shoes and socks here. We have a 3 day rotation and your child needs gym shoes in order to participate.

Assignment Notebook:
Please make sure and check your child's notebook each night. You should initial or sign the bottom of the daily assignment book. If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher.

Reading & Math Minutes:
On Tuesday, your child will receive a reading and math calendar. Your child is required to read 15 minutes per night (Monday through Friday) and practice addition facts for 5 minutes per night (Monday through Friday). If your child is busy on Wed. night, he/she can double up on math facts on Thursday night. We just want the total of minutes to be 285 minutes for reading and 95 minutes for math. This will be due on Monday, Oct. 3rd. Each month we will have a celebration for the students that complete the minutes, turn it in on time and have a parent/guardian signature.

Water Bottles and Snack:
Your child is allowed to have a water bottle and snack each day. We will have snack in the afternoon at 1:50. Please label your child's water bottle. On Tuesday (9/6) and Wednesday  (9/7) we will be going outside to review playground rules for the Recess Bonanza. Please consider sending a water bottle with your child.
